3 months and some

*I dare you to resist turning your head sideways

Dear Delilah,

You are now three and half months give or take. The word I used most to describe you since you were born is sensitive. I feel that life outside the comforts of your mama's womb have been harder for you than it was for your big sister. Right away you didn't like to be moved around too much, even now when we pick you up too fast or in a manner not pleasing to you, you let us know. You are also sensitive to loud noises, especially screaming and yelling, like when the Arizona Cardinals won the NFC Championship game or when your sister is being too loud. But sweetie, you are going to have to get used to the noise, because we are LOUD. Mama comes from a loud, passionate family whom are not shy about expressing their emotions like excitement or anger, but especially love. You are also sensitive to your sister's cries. When she is crying, you will start to cry too along with her. You now have become very social and make these little protest cries that translate to "I can't see you" or "pick me up." Mama had to go back to work a few weeks ago and you have been adjusting. You don't cry on the way to work or on the way home anymore-thank you. That made going back to work even tougher on me. You have many names around here like "honey bunny" "lila" "squealy" "smiley" "cutie pie." I've even called you "D" a couple of times. Your likes in order are: nursing, sleeping (more on that later), your pacifier, looking at your family's faces, watching your sister play, your playmat. Back to the sleeping part, you love to sleep, but just not longer than 4 hours. Mama has been able to get you to do 6 hours straight with the pacifier but you still start stirring after 4 hours. Now this might not sound like you love to sleep to most, but you always go back to sleep quickly at night (after nursing) and will continue to do so until 9:30 am. You also take at least 3 naps with the middle one being at least 2 hours. You've taken a 4 hour nap at daycare. You also start to get very cranky when you are ready to sleep and if we don't put you down right away and you get overtired you will have a full blown meltdown. You like your playmat that you received from Santa on Christmas, you like to bat at and grab the toys. Sometimes you try to pull they toys to your mouth but haven't mastered that skill just yet. I have caught you watching tv a few times and wonder if you will like tv just as much as your older sister. You like sitting in the upright bouncy seat now so that you can take in all the action. Lately, you have been pulling yourself forward and looking at your toes. This month also was when you got your first cold. But you have barely complained. You just have needed some extra lovin to help you through it. You have the sweetest smile that just melts all of our hearts and has your sister always saying "Delilah so cute." You have this one smile where you turn your head to the side while smiling that had mama thinking you only smiled like that at her until daddy described the same smile and said he thought you only did that for him. But one thing you only do for mama is stare intensely at me with those big brown eyes, so much that others have noticed "the stare." I like to think of it as the baby love stare. Showing your gratitude in your sweet baby way. You have charmed all of us. We are so happy that you are a part of our family. We love you very much.

love,
Mama
